Gandhi Hall Declaration
   On July 27-28, 1990, the Central Executive Committee of the National League for Democracy convened a meeting of representatives elected in the General Election of May 27, 1990, at Gandhi Hall in downtown Rangoon (Yangon) and issued a declaration calling on the State Law and Order Restoration Council to allow the new members of parliament to form a government; release Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, U Tin U, and other political prisoners from detention; and suspend laws and decrees that restricted civil liberties.
